Ballot Tracking  

To find out if the Voter Registration Offfice has received your application for an absentee ballot, when your ballot was mailed, or if your voted ballot has been returned view the  Georgia Secretary of State Website. You may also contact our office at 912-790-1520.


Absentee ballots will be available beginning 45 days prior to the Election for all eligible voters. No absentee ballots will be issued or cast on the Monday preceding the date of the election. For more information call (912) 790-1520.

To be eligible to cast an absentee ballot in person in the Voter Registration Office individuals must be registered to vote and must complete an application for their absentee ballot. Voters must provide one of the six forms of photo identification required under Georgia law. Citizens unable to provide one of the six forms of photo identification required for in person voting under Georgia law will be required to cast a Provisional Ballot.

The voter will then have 48 hours from the day of the Election to provide ID in order for their ballot to be counted. If the voter is unable to provide the proper ID in the allotted time period, the ballot will be rejected and the voter will be notified. The Voter Registration Office hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Voters voting during Advance Voting Week are required to produce one of the six acceptable forms of photo identification in order to vote. Voters will not have to provide a reason for voting.


Absentee Voting by Mail  
Absentee ballots issued through the mail will be available 45 days prior to the election.  Any eligible voter requesting an absentee ballot through the mail must submit a request in writing to the Voter Registration Office. The application must state the voter’s name, address, date of birth, the date of the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot, party preference (if primary) and the voter’s signature.

Anyone desiring to request absentee ballots by mail should submit an application as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for mail delivery. Electors who voted absentee ballot by mail for the General Primary and General Primary Run-off Elections will not automatically be sent a ballot for the General Election.   Applications are rolled over for all elections during the year only if the reason for the request was due to age 75 or older or physical disability and the voter specifically requested all ballots as allowed by law.  2012 is a new Election year, a new absentee ballot applications must be submitted by electors who meet the age and disability criteria.

Voters may submit request to receive an absentee ballot by mail as early as 180 days prior to an election. Absentee ballot request may be submitted by mail to Chatham County Voter Registration, P.O. Box 13757, Savannah, GA  31416; or by fax to (912) 790-1519.

A registered voter is allowed to vote by absentee ballot with out providing a reason.

A voter may choose to submit one application and receive a ballot for the Primary, Primary Runoff, Election and Election Runoff by stating "I choose to receive all absentee ballots as allowed by law" if you meet the following criteria: A member of the Armed Forces or Merchant Marines of the United States or a spouse or dependant living outside the county or municipality in which the election is held or a civilian permanently or temporarily residing overseas; or a voter age 75 or older, or a voter with a physical disability.

To ensure that you have time to receive your ballot and return it by Election Day we recommend you make your request early as possible.

Early Voting  

A person may cast an absentee ballot in person at the registrar's office at least 21 days prior to any general primary or general election without a declared reason.
